The London Parade Festival.January 1st. Is one of the biggest events in London's calendar, featuring almost 10,000 participants from around the world. It draws a street audience of close to 1 million people. London International Boat Show.Early January. This is the biggest boat show in Europe. Location: Earl's Court Exhibition Center, Warwick Road. Charles J. Commemoration.Last Sunday in January. To commemorate the anniversary of King Charles execution, cavaliers march through Central London dressed in 17th century attire. The Olympia Fine Art and Antique Fair.February 22-27. Held in Olympia, this fair features over 200 exhibitors selling antique furniture and fine art works. Chinese New Year.February 13. Famous Lion Dancers in SoHo.
March
Classic Motor Show.Mid March. Visit Alexandra Palace, Wood Green, in north London, for one of the largest exhibitions of vintage, Edwardian and rare vehicles in the world. Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race.Late March. Cambridge and Oxford race their boats along a 4 ΒΌ mile stretch of the Thames River, between Putney Bridge and Mortlake.
April
London Marathon.Mid April. The 26-mile course from Greenwich Park and Black Heath to the Buckingham Palace Mall forms the core of a continuous line of live bands, pubs with live entertainment, and thousands of cheering fans. Around 30,000 people are expected to run. London Garden Show.Late April. The Alexandra Palace in Wood Green hosts hundreds of vendors and gardening artists for this annual spring event.
May
The London Dollhouse Festival.Mid May. This festival which was started in 1985 is a stopping place for some miniature houses which will make their way to the Museum of Miniatures in Los Angeles. At the festival there is a very large non-selling Display section, larger than any other UK show. Outdoor Shakespeare Performances.Late May - Summer. Epsom Derby Stakes.Early June. This derby is the most recognized event of the British horse racing calendar. Trooping the Colour.Official birthday of the queen, who inspects her regiments and takes their salute as they parade their colours before her, while seated in a horse-drawn carriage. Location: Horse Guards Parade, Whitewall. Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition.Early-June to Mid-August. Founded on 1768, this institution has sponsored for some two centuries Summer Exhibitions of living painters. You can browse and make purchases at very reasonable prices. Opening of Parliament.First Monday in October. Monarch opens parliament in the House of Lords. The monarch rides from Buckingham Palace Westminster in a royal coach. Horse of the Year Show.Early October. Riders fly from all over the world to join in this 'equine extravaganza' as it is often called. Location: Wembley Arena. November
Fireworks Night.Early November. Bonfires are lit around the city to commemorate the Gunpowder Plot, an attempt to blow up James I and his Parliament. The plot's most famous conspirator, Guy Fawkes, is burned in an effigy . Lord Mayor's Procession and Show.Mid November. Inauguration of the new Lord Mayor of the City of London. The Queen must ask permission to enter the City's square mile, as this right has been guarded since the 17th century by London's merchants. Location: Guildhall to the Royal Courts of Justice.
